What are we talking about? We are talking about sales and business success.

I started this blog to talk about one of the biggest issues I saw as a sales manager.... Strategy and planning.  Why?  It takes time and none of us have enough.  In fact, I started Plan 2 Winfor the same reason.  We win, we lose, and we don't slow down and see why each occurred.  That is what I want us to do here.  Stop and talk about why we win and why we lose, and what we can do differently each time.  Good Selling!

Time management - or - Building set pieces between meetings

Today is an interesting combination of what Stephen Covey refers to as Roles.  First, I started my day at 6:30 building a fake camp fire as a set piece for my daughters' ballet "Peter Pan".  I am the Technical Director so I have all of the set responsibility. (I still have a pirate ship and exploding gift to go, but that is for another time.)  In my CEO role, the knowledge base and customer forum that I built for Plan 2 Win was deleted by Rollbase in a database upgrade.  Those two applications and all of the content was 2 weeks worth of work, so that has to get started.  In my Entrepreneur role, I am also attending TieCon East starting this afternoon.  This is a great entrepreneur event that happens every year and I try and make it.  (Having already paid, yes, damn it I am going!)  I always get great ideas, good connections, and all kinds of motivation.  The problem of course is time...  Today will be an 18 hour day.  It just will.  But, that is what we do.

As sales people, as business owners, as entrepreneurs, sometimes to accomplish what we need to accomplish and want to accomplish (we all have our Pirate ships), we need to work harder and longer than someone who has a 9 - 5 type of job.  If we wanted a 9-5 we wouldn't be sales people.  But it puts a much bigger burden on us that on other types of careers.  I didn't plan on having this all occur on the same day, but the first thing I did this morning (before the camp fire) was to update and change my daily plan.  TieCon is important, so I will make the time.  My daughters' ballet is important... Fixing the knowledge base and Forum is important...

The key is understanding what is most important, building a plan to make it all happen, and then sticking to it.  As Stephen Covey says, "Practice integrity at the moment of decision."

Now, where did I put that Pirate flag?
